A 28-page Senate report released on 28 September 2026 says Tether's USDT stablecoin has become a central conduit in Iran's shadow banking network. Investigators analyzed 846 sanctioned wallets and found most transacted in USDT.
Tether said its funds at EQIBank represent less than 0.034% of group assets, about $64 million, after U.S. authorities seized roughly $89 million tied to the bank. The stablecoin issuer said it had no knowledge of the conduct alleged against payment processor Capstone.
Poland's state-controlled Orlen paid a $230 million advance for Venezuelan crude in December 2023, largely converted into Tether's USDT stablecoin. Only about $29 million of oil arrived, and Warsaw prosecutors have since indicted three former managers.
Tether and Fasanara Capital launched StableFund, an evergreen private credit fund anchored by $400 million in co-investment. The vehicle targets up to $3 billion from institutional investors to finance small businesses through USDT settlement rails in more than 60 countries.
Rating agency Bluechip raised Tether's grade to C from D after a KPMG audit found reserves exceeded liabilities by $6.8 billion. Security firm Hacken warned that about $91.3 billion of USDT on Tron sits behind a multisig that two keys could seize.
