One question, answered with live data
You ask

What is Bitcoin’s price, and how far is it below its all-time high?

The agent calls
resolveId({ type: "coin", query: "bitcoin" , rationale: "Retrieve market data for the requested crypto analysis." })
getTickersById({ coinId: "btc-bitcoin" , rationale: "Retrieve market data for the requested crypto analysis." })
The agent answers

Bitcoin is $82,772.24, down 1.06% in 24 hours. That is 34.38% below its all-time high of $126,173.18, set on 6 October 2025.

Check that it works

Ask your agent

What is the price of Ethereum right now?

It should call
resolveId({ type: "coin", query: "ethereum" , rationale: "Retrieve market data for the requested crypto analysis." })
getTickersById({ coinId: "eth-ethereum" , rationale: "Retrieve market data for the requested crypto analysis." })

If it answers from memory, tell it to use the CoinPaprika tools. If a tool fails, ask it to call status.

All 31 MCP tools, and the plan each needs

27 work with no key. Three need Starter or higher and one needs Business. Every tool except submitFeedback takes a short rationale that says why it is being called.

Questions it answers, and the calls behind them

Four more prompts to try. Each answer below is built only from what the tool returned.

You ask

How is the crypto market doing today?

The agent calls
getGlobal({ rationale: "Retrieve market data for the requested crypto analysis." })
The agent answers

The total crypto market cap is $2.96 trillion, down 0.63% in 24 hours. Volume over 24 hours is $419.89 billion and Bitcoin dominance is 56.51%.

You ask

Which markets trade the most Bitcoin?

The agent calls
resolveId({ type: "coin", query: "bitcoin" , rationale: "Retrieve market data for the requested crypto analysis." })
getCoinMarkets({ coinId: "btc-bitcoin" , rationale: "Retrieve market data for the requested crypto analysis." })
The agent answers

Of 2,175 Bitcoin markets, the largest shares of 24-hour volume are Pionex BTC/USDT with 12.59% (trust score: low) and Binance BTC/USDT with 5.41% (trust score: high).

You ask

What was Bitcoin's daily candle yesterday?

The agent calls
getCoinOHLCVLatest({ coinId: "btc-bitcoin" , rationale: "Retrieve market data for the requested crypto analysis." })
The agent answers

On 7 October 2026 Bitcoin opened at $85,561.26, peaked at $85,584.86, fell to $82,821.21 and closed at $83,283.99, on $29.83 billion of volume.

You ask

Which token is at 0xdac17f958d2ee523a2206206994597c13d831ec7 on Ethereum?

The agent calls
getTickerByContract({
  platformId: "eth-ethereum",
  contractAddress: "0xdac17f958d2ee523a2206206994597c13d831ec7"
, rationale: "Retrieve market data for the requested crypto analysis." })
The agent answers

That contract is Tether (USDT), ranked third by market cap. Its price is $0.9997.

Values recorded from the keyless API on 8 October 2026. Tool examples include the required rationale argument.

Limits, paid tools and upgrading

The hosted server serves the free tier. Paid tools work when you run the server with your own key.

Monthly quota
20,000 calls per IP address, shared with the keyless REST API
Rate limit
10 requests a second per IP address
History without a key
1 year of daily prices and 24 hours of hourly prices
When a tool fails
The result has isError and a code: CP402_PAID_ENDPOINT for the plan, CP403_INVALID_API_KEY for the key, CP404_* for the ID.

Move an agent to a paid plan

  1. 01 Pick a plan Starter at $99 a month opens three paid tools and commercial use. See plans
  2. 02 Copy your key From the API panel, after you subscribe.
  3. 03 Run the server with it COINPAPRIKA_API_KEY=your-key npx @coinpaprika/mcp
  4. 04 Check the quota Ask the agent to call keyInfo. It returns your plan and what is left.

Know the boundary. The hosted server serves free-tier data and does not pass a paid key on. For paid tools, run the open-source server with your key.

What the server can and cannot do

It reads public market data. It cannot touch money or accounts.

Read-only

30 tools only read market data. The other one, submitFeedback, sends your report to the team. No tool can trade, sign or move funds.

Nothing to hand over

No wallet, no exchange account, no password. 27 tools need no key at all, and the four paid ones use a CoinPaprika API key that you keep on your machine.

What is logged

Each call carries a short rationale. It is logged and reviewed to improve the server, so keep personal data and secrets out of it.

MCP server FAQ

Questions about the REST API, pricing and licences are on the API page.

Any client that supports remote MCP servers. Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code connect to https://mcp.coinpaprika.com/streamable-http directly. Claude Desktop connects through the SSE endpoint, and code without an MCP client can call the JSON-RPC endpoint.

No. 27 of the 31 tools work with no key and no account. The other four need a paid plan.

20,000 calls a month per IP address and 10 requests a second. The monthly quota is shared with the keyless REST API.

getCoinOHLCVHistorical, keyInfo and getChangelogIDs need Starter or higher, and getMappings needs Business or higher. On the hosted server they answer with a CP402_PAID_ENDPOINT message instead of data. To use them, run the open-source server with your own key.

Not on the free tier, which is licensed for personal use. Commercial use starts with the Starter plan at $99 a month: run the server with your key and it works on your plan.
